I had a 3-day weekend before starting my Salem clinic rotation, so I wandered off to the Olympic Peninsula for a little time alone with nature...

Here's my tent at the "Heart of the Hills" campground, partway up the road to Hurricane Hill. |
I took a short hike in the rain right from the campground Friday night when I arrived, and saw some nice trees... |
More trees... |
And these funky little plants. |
In the morning I drove off to some of the beaches I hadn't seen on previous trips -- this is Rialto Beach. |
Rialto Beach again |
Also in the Rialto Beach area |
Some fishing boats a little south of where those other pictures were taken. |
On the road by Lake Crescent... |
I stopped by the Lake Crescent Lodge for lunch and to sit in the sun for a while. |
Here's the lake again |
This is a bit odd, but I had to take it diagonally so the whole waterfall would fit in the picture... I did this short hike to Marymere Falls after lunch. |
When I got back to the Hurricane Hill road, I found that it was now open (it had been closed beyond the campground when I arrived due to the weather...) so I drove up. A bit cloudy, but a fine view! |
Saw a few of these on the way too... |

The mountains from back down the hill (at Port Angeles) |
