Seth and I finally got up to Mt. St. Helens -- this time at night! The last weekend in May brought a full moon, and although some clouds were in the forecast, we decided to try it. We didn't summit (or even come anywhere close, actually) but this was truly an amazing experience.

Leaving Seth's house |
Packing up the car... snowshoes? skis? poles? headlamp? trail mix? cell phone? camera? |
Off we go... |
...leaving Portland around sunset. |
We signed ourselves in to the log book at Jack's... |
...then finally hit the trail around midnight. |
This was the trail we followed. |
The full moon provided more light than it seems from this picture... Until it got real cloudy, that is. |
Here's me with my headlamp. |
Seth again. |
Around 4:30 or 5AM I decided I wasn't going any further. The sun was coming up so we sat down to rest, watch the sunrise, and maybe take a nap. |
The view from where we stopped, with a little light in the sky now. We headed back down after that little break... |
...but not before Seth read "There's A Wocket In My Pocket"... Um, it's a long story... |
I walked down along one of the exposed ridges which proved a lot easier than snowshoeing -- here's a picture from the descent. |
Seth got some good skiing in while I walked. |
Along the drive out we stopped to take a picture of the sign... (Monica, you'd be proud!) |
