Hiking to McNeil Point on Mt. Hood... This weekend I convinced Neshe to hike rather than spend a day at the hospital, so she convinced me to do this really big hike. It was about 12 miles roundtrip, and we think 3000 feet or more gain... Well worth it for the views, as you'll see!

On the way there... |

Registering ourselves... |
I set the camera up on the registration box to take this one... |
After hiking through forest for maybe 2 miles, we reached this clearing -- here's Neshe enjoying the view |
Here's me at the same spot |
Another view of Mt. Hood -- I've marked the spot we eventually hiked to with a "you are here" sign! (I _love_ photoshop! |
We saw lots of flowers along the way, and Neshe could name most of them (are you happy, Mom?) |
These are avalanche lilies |
Aye, there be lupines!! (um, long story...) |
And these are indian paintbrush |
Some neat moss on the trees |
Flowers along the trail... |
We crossed this stream along the way |
This was neat, a spring bubbling up from the ground! |
Another view of Mt. Hood from along the trail. |
Up higher we got views of the Cascades north of Mt Hood -- that's Mt. Rainier on the left and Mt. Adams on the right... St. Helens is off further to the left (see next picture) |
There's St. Helens... you can barely see it, I know... |
Here's Neshe enjoying that view (where I took those last 2 pictures) |
This was a neat little shelter below McNeil Point -- Mt. Hood is in the background. |
Still higher -- looking down I think you can barely make out our trail... the shelter from the last picture is further down below that ridge. |
And here I am at the top! |
This was the view of Mt Hood from up there... (actually I think I took this from just before the end of the trail) |
A closer look at one of Mt. Hood's glaciers |
Another glacier |
Looking down at snowfields |
Neshe at the top (Mt. Hood is behind me) |
I just thought those were cool rocks :) |
