Deb's Photo Album

For the first half of my vacation week in July, I headed off to Eastern Oregon for a camping trip. This was a solo trip, so unfortunately not many pictures of me in there (sorry, Mom and Dad!)

Monica, this is for you... Never heard of the famous espresso wagons on the Oregon Trail? Yeah, thought you'd be amused!

My first destination... The Wallowa Mountains. For the Oregon impaired, this is in the far northeastern corner of the state.

Where I camped the first night, near Wallowa Lake... (Seth, I think this is the one I took while I was talking to you)

I took a very steep tram ride to somewhere near the summit of Mt. Howard (about 8200 ft?)...

There was a short (2.5 miles?) hike to do from there, with views like this!

Rented an awful inflatable 'kayak" on Wallowa Lake one day... Couldn't steer it worth anything, but oh well, it was a beautiful day to be floating around a lake!

I'm told these were osprey nesting up there... (also seen from the kayak)

Before leaving the Wallowas, I did one more hike, at Hurricane Creek -- here's one shot from there.

At this Hell's Canyon overlook you can see the Seven Devils Mountains (on the Idaho side of the canyon)... Can't see the Snake River from here though.

I think this fun (and rather photogenic) road was the one leading to that overlook.

Finally made it around to the Hell's Canyon Dam -- here it is.

I guess I forgot to take a picture of my tent in Idaho, but this is the phone at that campground -- Merrill, I left you that check-in message from here. Note the rattlesnake danger. Yikes! :)

Time for some real adventure... Whitewater rafting on the Snake River through Hell's Canyon. Wow, this was amazing... Here's one of our guides giving us the requisite safety talk to begin our day.

Just had to take this picture along the drive back... Look! A whole flock of landmanatees! Or is it a school? A herd?
