Florence, OR -- fall '03

Boats at the port on the Siuslaw River (this is a block from my apartment)
More boats
The bridge that takes highway 101 over the Siuslaw.
My little apartment building -- I'm in the back on the 2nd floor.
Heceta Head lighthouse, about 10 miles or so north of Florence.
Cape Perpetua, about a half-hour north of Florence.
The surf does some wild stuff there...
From one of my sunset walks on the beach (this is at Heceta Beach which is pretty much right in town)
Some of the really nice houses along that beach!
Further up the coast again -- this is from one of the overlooks at Cape Perpetua
A bunch of us from work and elsewhere went out for my birthday to a Mexican restaurant with good margaritas -- here's Becca and Mica.
Also at the birthday party -- here's Alec (an orthopedic surgeon there)
Matt and Donna (Matt's an ER doc)
Tatyana, our med student! (she's not usually out of focus though!)
Here's Alec again wearing the birthday hat they originally had brought for me :)
Hanukah: I managed to find one other Jew in Florence with whom to light candles!
This one's out of focus, but the story is that one of the candles suffered a fracture while we were setting them up -- it obviously needed to be repaired by the expert...
Okay, finally time to light the candles!
So... Mary (one of the other orthopods in Florence) had some friends visiting, and decided that we all needed to be exposed to a sand rail ride on the dunes... Here I am leaning on our vehicle before the ride. (yeah it was cold that day!)
Mary and her two friends, with our driver making sure we're all strapped in well.
We traded around so I was in the front seat for a while -- here's the view out the front. Man, did I wish _I_ was driving!
All four of us in the buggy...
An evening of latke-making at Kate's
Don't they look good??
Just a couple of New Year's photos -- we had to search for a channel covering the festivities in Times Square...
Chris and Alec... still searching (utimately we just missed seeing the ball drop, but oh well). Oh, and I forgot to get the camera out again for champagne, sorry!
Okay so this has nothing to do with Florence, but my rug finally arrived from the reservation while I was down there, so it ended up on this page.
Here's how it looks on my wall.
